[VINEXPO 2017] GERMANY - Riesling and Pinot noir

21. JUIN 2017

1. Riesling

* Dr. Loosen 2012 (Mosel)
off dry Riesling
Old vine (more than 100 yrs) - low yield
volcanic red slate terroir

* Dönnhoff 2016 (Nahe)
Texture
old oak barrel maturation
limestone terroir

* Thörle 2015 (Rheinhessen)
★★★
little bit more expensive than others
The touch on the tongue is good.
more acid and spicy

* Keller (2009) Riesling
2009 was not the best year because it was too hot in Germany.
but it is still very good.
The best vintage in Germany is 2004, 2008 and 2015 (in case of Mosel)

2. Pinot noir

Rheinhessen
2015 Spätburgunder trocken (pinot noir)

Weingut Thörle
www.thoerle-wein.de
13.5% 15 euros

Franken
2014 Spätburgunder trocken
Klingenberg "R"
Weingut Stadt Klingenberg
www.weingut-benedikt-baltes.de
13.5% 24 Euros

Red fruits, vegetal touch

Ahr
2014 Spätburgunder Großes Gewachs
Walporzheimer Gärkammer
Weingut J.J Adeneuner
www.adeneuer.de
13.5% 38 euros

(My favourite here)

Micro climate is important for vineyard because the vineyards are located in a narrow valley. Ahr is very small area in north side of Mosel.
Terroir: Slate soil

Baden
2014 Spätburgunder trocken
Dottinger Castellberg
Weingut Martin Waßmer
www.weingut-wassmer.de
13% 68 euros

Vegatal, spices and fruity
very complex and intense
Premium
Terroir: Chalky soil

The Red wine share is getting bigger.
During some years, the percentage grew up from 11 % to 36%.
The red wine production in Baden area is the biggest, following Pfalz.
