[Tasting] Auchan Foire aux vins (22.Mars ~ 01.Avril)

21.Mars.2017
Auchan Foire aux vins
à Auchan Bordeaux Lac

Wine tasting for Foire aux vins!

There was an event at Auchan Bordeaux Lac.
To promote sales, wine tasting event was held at supermarket!
There were 11 booths of wine and 2 stands of cheese and ham.

I tasted wine from the most expensive price. (LOL)

1. (7) Chateaux Carbonnieux - AOC Pessac-Leognan
vintage 2014, 24.95 euros

Chateau Carbonnieux was very young but the aroma was good.
The other one could be better to drink now.

2. (6) Chateau L'Estran - AOC Medoc
vintage 2010, 9.99 euros

It was also too young but with good smell.

3. (2) Chateau La Chepelle des Tours - AOC Montagne Saint Emilion
vintage 2009, 5.95 euros

This was the first time that I heard the name of AOC.
If you want to drink soon, I think this is the best choice.

4. (3) Abbaye de Saint Ferme - AOC Bordeaux Superieur

Not so bad

This cheese was really nice. Cheese with chili blah blah
from Pay basque.
Hurray Piment!! Hurray Chili!

5. (8) BB de Berticot - AOC Cotes de Duras (Bio)
vintage 2016, 3.79 euros

It is dry white wine. It was very fresh and something I looked for.
So I bought it. haha

6. (9) L'aurore en Gascogne, Bernard Magrez - IGP Cotes de Gascogne
vintage 2015, 6.50 euros

This was so nice. It is quite sweet as between off- dry to medium sweet.
I think that I should go to Auchan once again to buy this wine.

Jambon (Porc) from Pyrenes.
It was also very good.

7. (11) Renaissance by Chateau Leognan - AOC Bordeaux Rose
vintage 2016, 6.99 euros.

This booth offered all tree types of wine: Red, White and Rose.
I tasted White and Rose, and I prefer White.
Always, I'm thinking that.. although wine is really good,
the person is not kind, then I don't want to buy.
Wine is not essential product like toilet paper.
This is an item of personal preference like tabacco or coffee.
If you have a good memory with a certain wine, you would like to consume the same thing continuously.
Of course, once you know the tasty of wine, you also would like to taste other wines.
However, the first experience and the best experience are always able to have huge influence on your choice.
I believe that wine brands has to do their best to give good memory or good experience to their clients as well as the quality.

8. (4) Chateau de Landiras - AOC Graves
vintage 2015, 6.50 euros

It was also good. If I buy a red, I would buy this.

In the event hall, some bread was also provided.
There was a really good bread with dried berries.

9. (1) Chateau Noblet - AOC Cotes de Bourg
vintage 2015, 3.99 euros

It was my preference. It was enough strong, therefore it would be good to keep for several years.

10. (5) Chateau Pouyau de Boisset - AOC Cotes de blaye
vintage 2014, 6.99 euros

It was also good.

At the last booth, Provence Rose, there was nobody.
So I was not able to taste the wine.

There was a event to give magnum size wine.
I didn't know that they choose winner during the tasting time.
So.. my ticket... came back home with me..
so sad..

Between electronic products section and life products section,
there is big part of wines for Foire aux vins.
The price is quite cheap and there are diverse wines even from the world.

[Tasting] Wine tasting competition @aoc.kedge

11. Mars. 2017

L'etiquette

There was a wine tasting competition in Bordeaux with several wine institutes.

I participated in this competition as one of the representative of my school VATEL.

I have arrived very early. The competition was prepared at the 5th floor in Vatel school.

This is our table.
For the wine tasting competition, the participant schools made a group of 4 students.

Some papers, bread and water were prepared.
I really liked the paper to put wine glasses. It is so amazing idea!
That's why I brought it to home. ^v^**

First of all, we tasted 4 different white wines.
We had only 30 minutes for 4 wines,
(I think it is little bit too short time!!!
although I don't know well how French(???) people taste wine!!)
And we discussed with our members to make one answer sheet.
I guessed them quite well but.. my answer was all wrong..... 8ㅅ8....
I needed more time to think........

During the break time between white wine tasting and red wine tasting,
2 sommeliers were checking the answer sheets.

There were prizes.

a beautiful bottle of champagne, Sauternes...

Red wine tasting was same as white wine tasting.
This time, we discussed at the end of each wine tasting.
This second time was better than the first one, however, I was still not adjusted to the quick atmosphere.
Therefore... I assumed grape variety, region and even AOC quite well....
but, all the answers were mixed. 8ㅅ8....

The next team, they were the best one.

During the second break time, I went out to terrace.
This building was smaller than I thought.

I can see the basilica (Basilique) of Saint Michael,

Tram station line B: Cours du Medoc

The street: every morning I walked or got bus..

buildings

This is the answer.

Riesling - Alsace / Sauvignon - Pouilly Fume / Semillon - Pessac-Leognan
Gewrutztraminer - Alsace

Cabernet Sauvignon + Merlot - Bordeaux / Syrah - Rhone / Gamey - Beaujolais
Syrah + Grenache...? (I forgot)

After presenting the answer, it was time to enjoy champagne.

After champagne time, we have done another blind tasting.
It was quite difficult!
Actually, blind tasting is really difficult!

Eventually, we were not one of the winner in the competition.
However, it was our school who offered the place, so we have received prize.
A bottle of Gewruztraminer, Loupiac and a tool of red wine aerator.

This is the prize for all the participants.

The wine competition was so interesting.
Even though I was not able to reach to correct answer, I enjoyed very much.
If I had more time to prepare this competition, it might be better than this. (Maybe!)
It was very useful and wonderful experience for me!

[Vacances] 09.Mars.17 Bayonne

09. Mars. 17

Bayonne (Pay Basque)

Bayonne is located at south-west region of France.
This city is quite famous as Pay Basque.
It is very close to Spain, therefore, there are a lot of special cultures : Fromage(Cheese), Piment(Chili), Jambon(Ham) and famous festival.

It takes around 1hour and half from Bordeaux.
I was so boring because I had no internet, no job and no friend for a moment, so I left to Bayonne.  (The train ticket was little bit expensive, and after this travel SNCF gave me advantage code....!!!!)

In Bayonne, there is a big river like Garonne, and small stream dividing the town to 2 parts.
In addition, as this old town area was so small, you can walk to visit.

First of all, I went to Tourism office. In France, the tourism office system is really well-organized. Most of tourism offices are located in the center of the city, they provide city map in free and there are lots of quality goods (unfortunately, I have no enough money. This is the biggest problem.)

During the way to tourism office

It was lunch time, so I went toward to have lunch after getting city map.
The restaurant which I had found before coming to Bayonne was located on the opposite site. The weather was so beautiful, I crossed the bridge, everything was perfect.

Restaurant ~ Auberge du petit Bayonne
23 rue des cordeliers

This beer has chili pepper flavour!!!! It was so so good!!

The "today's menu" was not expensive.

starter

main
The chili pepper was so so so so nice!!!!!!

dessert

wine included!!!

         Cathedral
Place Mgr Vansteenberghe

After lunch, I went to see the cathedral and Chateau vieux. There were Chateau Neuf (nex castle) but It was not opened to public.

The cathedral was beautiful and little small compared to the one in my city.
However, there was a cloître((abbey) cloister) with pretty green field.

                 Chateau vieux

Unfortunately, Chateau vieux was not also opened for public.
It seems like military place.
And how many do Asian visitors tried to come in?!
All the languages in front of the chateau were Asian language. LOL

Korean was wrong.... If you write like this, it means "Do no enter(=input)"

And I walked around the botanic garden… until La Porte D'Espagne(Gate of Spain). (It seems like a gate to go to Spain in the past). There was a free bus which circulates in the old town.

I wanted to visit Chocolate atelier, so I went out from the old town.
However, it was too far to walk and the time was also too late.
I returned toward the train station. I had a little time, so I stayed at a bar in front of train station.
I thought that I walked only for 2-3 hours but I was tooooooooo tired.

Bayonne was so nice place! I want to visit once again! It was so sorry that I was not able to visit Atelier du jambon and L'Atelier du Chocolat!!!!!

Also, the festival!!!!! I want to see!!!!
