[Presentation] Concours mondial des feminalise

06 Juin 2018

Today I'd like to talk about 'Concours mondial des féminalise'.
A day in April, I found this wine in supermarket.
It attracted me because of the note "sur lie" and "mouscadet".
Usually I bought Bordeaux wine, but I wanted to taste something else at that time.
Also, the sticker of gold medal was another reason that I chose this wine.

This white wine was excellent!
I matched it with Cheese and Sausage plate, I didn't feel any other bitterness.
Sometimes I felt little bit too much strong acidity or coldness like ice when I drunk white wine,
however this wine was quite softer.
So I was able to enjoy it very much.
(The fact that I finished it at once and alone is not secret.)

Now, I have a question.
What is "Concours mondial des féminalise"?
Through the word "féminalise", I could guess this award is related to females.

I searched for the word, and found their web site very easily.

I believe that this awards is meaningful.
These days, more and more female consumers have a choice of wine.
70% of wine consumption is occupied by female consumers.
Therefore it is very essential to access to wine consumption from the view of women.

The tasters of this awards are all female, more than 600 women from the world participate into the tasting.
Also, Asian women (normally Japanese, I guess) take part in the tasting.

That's great achievement, I think.

HOWEVER

I was so disappointed.
This is because the founder of this awards it male.

A male made an awards of female.
Isn't it strange?

I cannot erase the image that "One beats the bush and another catches the birds."

[Visiting] La Cite du Vin "La vinification en Qvevri"

#LesJourneeduPatrimoine

La Cite du Vin

17 Septembre 2017

On the day all the museums and monuments in France open for public in free,
La Cite du Vin was not really free.
However, there was a very interesting wine tasting, so I paid 6 euros for it!

These days, there is an temporary exhibition of Georgian wine.
This wine tasting was related to this exhibition.

I was little bit late, and I was fool because I was not able to find where I should go,
anyway...
At first, I watched two very old Georgian movie.
Because I went into the cinema quite late, I could not really understand the first movie, but the second one was so funny.
It was an episode related to Qvevri which is a traditional wine container in Georgia.

After that, we learned about Georgian wine, Terroir, and grape varieties etc.

The wine history in Georgia is 8000 years. This country is the first place of wine production in world history.

There are 525 grape varieties. wow

Like Jeju island, most of Georgian people seem to have vine plants at home.
There is a humor in South Korea.
Jeju people said that not everyone in Jeju has citrus trees at home.
But my grand mother has one.
I'm wondering if Georgian people are same or not. LOL

Originally, the scale of vine yard was 150,000 ha before Soviet Union regime.
After that, today, 40,000 ha of vineyard last.

AOC, 18 Appellation

The vineyards in Georgia get the impact from Black sea, mountains and a variety of soil types. (15 major types)

The west part (near Black sea) is cooler because of maritime climate,
and East part (the most famous wine production area: KAKHETI) is warmer.
70% of wine production belongs to KAKHETI area.

The wines from the area next to Black sea is becoming famous.
The style of wine is similar to Loire Valley's.

* Wine making process *
(white wine)

Crush grapes in wooden crusher ( Satsnakheli

Pour grape juice with certain percentage of skin and stems into Qvevri

Bury Qvevris under the ground and seal the lid not to contact to light and air
In western region, Qvevri would be buried outside.

After 4-6 months, the sediments move down.

In Korea, we have similar thing named as "Jangdok".
It's for fermented food like Kimchi.

* Wine Tasting *

1. TBILVINO QVEVRIS RKATSITELI (2014)

3. Alaverdi Monastery Marani (2011)

grape: Saperavi

The grape 'Saperavi' is similar to Syrah and Cabernet.

It was really interesting tasting.
Specially, Georgian white wine was so impressive.
Unlike normal white wine, the colour was very deep, with smoky and toasty aromas because of Qvevri and even tannins on the tongue because of skin and stems connection.

Perhaps I should visit the Georgian wine exhibition!

[Visiting] Portes Ouvertes (5) Chateau Lodenne

09. Avril. 2017

Portes Ouvertes 4 : Château Loudenne
Cru Bourgeois
Medoc AOC

The last chateau was "Chateau Loudenne" which is also located in north side of Medoc.
This chateau was so beautiful.
As the chateau was private place, I couldn't get to close there.
However, the building was pink colour and the garden was so cozy and beautiful.

Garden

The living room was decorated with flowers.
I love the decoration. It was very romantic.

⭐⭐⭐

3 types of wine: Red, Rose and White are produced at this chateau.
Therefore, they have Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec for red and rose wine.
And there are Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon for white wine.
Red wine production consists of around 60%.
The vineyard is quite big: 120 hectares

Wine production is pretty manual work although the scale of winery is huge.
Harvesting and sorting work are carried out by manpower.
Because they produce Red, Rose and White, the vats are diverse.
Depends on the materiel of the vat, the usage is different.

They have small wine museum.
The things in the exhibition place are old tools used in this chateau.
They were used in 17th and 18th century.

The oak barrels are all french oak.
There were some bigger barrels.
(Normal barrels in Bordeaux is 225L but the quantity of these barrel is 400L)

~ Tasting ~

1. White : Chateau Loudenne, Bordeaux, 2013

Lemon, Lime, Kerosene, Petrol
White Peach, Blossom

2. Chateau Loudenne, Medoc, Cru Bourgeois, 2011

Cherry,
Herbaceous,
Jammy, Savory(Sesame?)
Meaty
13.5%
(good)

3. Chateau Loudenne, Bordeaux, 2010

Orange marmalade, Mandarine
Exotic fruit / Stone fruits
Melon, passion fruits (more deep sweetness in terms of aroma)
The palate reminded me of viognier.
It was quite heavy and oily.
(I like it, too)

4. Chateau Loudenne, Medoc, Cru Bourgeois, 2008

Toasty. (I thought it is like grilled one)
meaty, Savory
enough strong tannins(peppery)
enough acidity
It reminded me of Tempura(Japanese frying food).
What...the....!!!!

✶ my favorite ✶
(Unfortunately, I was not able to take a photo of vintage 2008)

The vineyard faces to the river Gironde.

It seems like that you can stay at an accommodation in the chateau.
It would be quite nice to stay at chateau located near the river.

[Tasting] Auchan Foire aux vins (22.Mars ~ 01.Avril)

21.Mars.2017
Auchan Foire aux vins
à Auchan Bordeaux Lac

Wine tasting for Foire aux vins!

There was an event at Auchan Bordeaux Lac.
To promote sales, wine tasting event was held at supermarket!
There were 11 booths of wine and 2 stands of cheese and ham.

I tasted wine from the most expensive price. (LOL)

1. (7) Chateaux Carbonnieux - AOC Pessac-Leognan
vintage 2014, 24.95 euros

Chateau Carbonnieux was very young but the aroma was good.
The other one could be better to drink now.

2. (6) Chateau L'Estran - AOC Medoc
vintage 2010, 9.99 euros

It was also too young but with good smell.

3. (2) Chateau La Chepelle des Tours - AOC Montagne Saint Emilion
vintage 2009, 5.95 euros

This was the first time that I heard the name of AOC.
If you want to drink soon, I think this is the best choice.

4. (3) Abbaye de Saint Ferme - AOC Bordeaux Superieur

Not so bad

This cheese was really nice. Cheese with chili blah blah
from Pay basque.
Hurray Piment!! Hurray Chili!

5. (8) BB de Berticot - AOC Cotes de Duras (Bio)
vintage 2016, 3.79 euros

It is dry white wine. It was very fresh and something I looked for.
So I bought it. haha

6. (9) L'aurore en Gascogne, Bernard Magrez - IGP Cotes de Gascogne
vintage 2015, 6.50 euros

This was so nice. It is quite sweet as between off- dry to medium sweet.
I think that I should go to Auchan once again to buy this wine.

Jambon (Porc) from Pyrenes.
It was also very good.

7. (11) Renaissance by Chateau Leognan - AOC Bordeaux Rose
vintage 2016, 6.99 euros.

This booth offered all tree types of wine: Red, White and Rose.
I tasted White and Rose, and I prefer White.
Always, I'm thinking that.. although wine is really good,
the person is not kind, then I don't want to buy.
Wine is not essential product like toilet paper.
This is an item of personal preference like tabacco or coffee.
If you have a good memory with a certain wine, you would like to consume the same thing continuously.
Of course, once you know the tasty of wine, you also would like to taste other wines.
However, the first experience and the best experience are always able to have huge influence on your choice.
I believe that wine brands has to do their best to give good memory or good experience to their clients as well as the quality.

8. (4) Chateau de Landiras - AOC Graves
vintage 2015, 6.50 euros

It was also good. If I buy a red, I would buy this.

In the event hall, some bread was also provided.
There was a really good bread with dried berries.

9. (1) Chateau Noblet - AOC Cotes de Bourg
vintage 2015, 3.99 euros

It was my preference. It was enough strong, therefore it would be good to keep for several years.

10. (5) Chateau Pouyau de Boisset - AOC Cotes de blaye
vintage 2014, 6.99 euros

It was also good.

At the last booth, Provence Rose, there was nobody.
So I was not able to taste the wine.

There was a event to give magnum size wine.
I didn't know that they choose winner during the tasting time.
So.. my ticket... came back home with me..
so sad..

Between electronic products section and life products section,
there is big part of wines for Foire aux vins.
The price is quite cheap and there are diverse wines even from the world.
